(1) 가짜귀신

귀신 곡할 노릇이다. 귀신 중에도 가짜귀신이 있다는 얘기 들어보셨는가. 이 얘기, 가짜얘기 아니고 실화다. 진짜 가짜귀신이 있다. 2005년 5월 29일, 위키토피아에는 듣보잡 귀신 한 마리가 등장했다. 호주 원주민 신화에 등장한다는 ‘Jar’Edo Wens‘라는 귀신이었다. 동화는 안쓰고 ’귀씻소‘ 원고만 쓰는 동화작가 등 전세계의 귀신 애호가들이 용가리 통뼈라도 발견한 듯 열광했다.

귀신의 신상 설명서에는 “현세의 지식과 육체적 힘을 관장” “귀신 Altjira가 인간들이 대가리가 굵어져 교만해질까 살펴보려 만든 존재” 등의 내용이 담겨 있었다. (여기서 대가리 굵어졌다는 말은 시건방졌단 말이유. 한국말 표현 비슷허쥬? He is a god created by Altjira to oversee that the people did not get too big-headed.)

“난 가짜유.......”

하지만 ‘Jar’Edo Wens‘라는 귀신은 정체를 알 수 없는 익명의 호주인이 꾸며 올린 허구의 정체불명 존재였다. 그 호주인이 위키토피아에 올린 가짜귀신은 또 있었다. ‘Yohrmum’이라는 가짜귀신이었다. ‘Yohrmum’은 ‘your mom, 니 엄마, 니미’라는 뜻이다. (‘니미’는 '니 엄마'를 뜻하는 경상도 방언이유.)

허구의 존재는 약 10년 넘게 온라인에서 진짜 귀신행세를 했다. 귀신이 가짜임을 뒤늦게 확인한 위키토피아는 “가짜를 올리는 행위는 문화·예술을 파괴하는 반달리즘”고 규탄하며, “더 이상 귀신으로 인정하지 않는다”는 공식입장을 내놓았다. 사형도 집행했다. 관련 게시물을 삭제한 것이다.

아참, 가짜뉴스지만 사형 직전 가짜귀신들에게 “마지막으로 한마디 하라”고 하니 이런 말들을 하였다고 전해진다. “우리보다 나쁜놈은 우리같은 가짜를 만들어낸 놈이다. 가짜 샤네루, 얼마니보다 나쁜 놈은 그걸 만든 놈들 아니겠는가. 요즘 한국에 가짜뉴스 만들어 장사하는 놈들이 있다는데 결국 우리처럼 찍소리 한번 내고 사라질 것이다”

‘가짜뉴스 공장’ 에스더, 18대 대선 개입…“문재인 후보 비방 보도”

개신교 단체 에스더가 가짜뉴스를 생산·유통하는 ‘가짜뉴스 공장’이라는 주장이 제기됐다.

1일 한겨레 김완 기자가 tbs라디오 ‘김어준의 뉴스공장’에 출연, 가짜뉴스의 근원지에 대해 이야기했다. 김 기자는 “가짜뉴스의 출처들을 추적해 보니 에스더라는 개신교 단체였다”며 “에스더 홈페이지에 게시된 글들이 가짜뉴스의 출발점이었다”고 밝혔다.

앞서 김 기자의 보도에 따르면 18대 대선을 몇 달 앞둔 지난 2012년 6월 남한 내 종북세력의 준동을 막기 위한 인터넷 전문요원 300명 양성이 필요하고, 대통령 선거에서 적극적인 역할을 하겠다는 내용이 담긴 이용희 에스더 대표 명의의 ‘인터넷 선교사 양성을 위한 기획안’이 박근혜 캠프 관련 조직에게 전자우편으로 전달됐다. 전자우편에는 ‘대선 사역’에 따른 1년 운영경비 5억5000만원을 지원해달라는 내용이 담긴 것으로 전해졌다.

김 기자는 이날 “예멘 난민을 혐오하는 가짜뉴스들이 눈에 띄었다”며 “당시 청와대 국민청원에는 예멘 난민을 반대하는 글이 올라왔고 순식간에 70만명의 동의가 올라갔다”고 주장했다. 이어 “18대 대선에는 당시 문재인 후보 관련 가짜뉴스들이 나돌았으며 고려연방제와 저축은행 먹튀, 심지어 문 후보가 굿판까지 벌였다는 가짜뉴스가 작성됐다”고 언급했다. (큐키뉴스 김도현 기자 2018.10.01.)

The Jar'Edo Wens hoax was a deliberately fictitious Wikipedia article, which existed for almost 10 years before being spotted and deleted in March 2015. At the time, it was the longest-lasting hoax article discovered in the history of Wikipedia.
The unsourced article claimed to be about an Australian Aborigine god ("of earthly knowledge and physical might, created by Altjira to ensure that people did not get too arrogant or self-conceited. He is associated with victory and intelligence."), and was likely simply the name "Jared Owens", with different punctuation and capitalization. The author, an unregistered user at an Australian IP address, was active over an eleven-minute period in May 2005. Their only other contribution was to also add "Yohrmum" (obviously being a re-spelling of "Your Mum") to a list of Australian deities. This was more quickly spotted and removed.
The hoax was negligently copied into a book on atheism in 2012, as part of a long list of "gods and religions in history that have fallen out of favour".
Since 2005, due to the Seigenthaler incident, article creation has been restricted to registered users, making fake articles more difficult to establish.[7] However, people could still edit using IP addresses, but some articles are protected against vandalism (visible as a lock on the edit button).

It has survived unchallenged for almost a decade, but Wikipedia editors have finally caught up with, and removed, an entry created by an anonymous Australian contributor who concocted a fake Aboriginal deity named Jar'Edo Wens.
Jar'Edo Wens is, of course a creatively formatted version of the name "Jared Owens".
It's a ruse that seems so obvious once it has been pointed out, but which has lived as an accepted fact on one of the world's most visited websites since the entry was created at 1.42pm on Sunday, May 29, 2005.
"In Australian Aboriginal mythology, Jar'Edo Wens is a god of earthly knowledge and physical might, created by Altjira to oversee that the people did not get too big-headed, associated with victory and intelligence," the now officially expunged Wikipedia article reads. (하략)
