땅과 아파트로 수십억씩 부당이익을 챙긴 두 후보가 서민의 눈물을 닦아주겠다며 연일 비장하고 슬픈 표정을 짓고 있다. 1500억원대 자산가인 후보는 “나는 무주택자”라며 무주택자의 설움에 동참하고 있다. 사람 염장 지르는 기술도 가지가지다.

그들을 닮은 일본 요괴들이 있다. 요괴들은 어려움에 빠진 집을 찾아가 밤새 꺼이꺼이 곡을 한다. 어려움을 나누기 위해 우는 게 아니다. 우는 사람을 조롱하기 위해 흉내내어 우는 것일 뿐이다. 요괴들은 누군가의 절망을 처먹고 사는 존재다. 사람 염장 지르는 요괴들이다. 요괴들에게 속지마시라.

‘거짓 눈물’ 요괴

슬프고 어려운 일이 생긴 집을 찾아가 밤새 곡을 한다. 정말 슬퍼서 우는 게 아니다. 슬픔에 빠져 우는 사람을 조롱하기 위해 우는 흉내를 낸다. 요괴는 슬픔에 빠져있는 집안과 가족이 폭망할 때까지 계속 방문한다. Yonaki babā appears outside of houses where tragedy has struck, attracted by the sadness of those within. She remains outside of the house, weeping loudly all night long. Although it appears that yonaki babā are sharing in the sadness of others, it is said that they actually weep out of scorn, mocking those who are truly sad. She may return to the same house over and over for many nights. Families which are visited by a yonaki babā night after night invariably fall into ruin. She brings sickness and disaster wherever they go.

눈물을 전염시킨다

이 요괴의 곡소리를 들은 사람은 눈물 펑펑 흘리며 통곡한다. Yonaki babā’s weeping is contagious; those who hear her cannot help but to weep as well.

Yonaki babā looks like an old woman with scraggly, unkempt hair and plain robes.

Origin

Before modern medicine, plagues and natural disasters were often thought to be the works of these spirits. Because repeated yonaki babā appearances are often precursors to the ruin of an entire family, it has been suggested that she may be a kind of yakubyō gami.
