(1) 괴물새 혹은 가짜공포

18세기 초반, 아메리카 대륙으로 이민 온 독일인들의 정착지에 괴물새가 나타났다. 괴물새는 끔찍한 형상을 하고 있었다. 특히 줄줄이 달고 있는 촉수는 공포 그 자체였다. 괴물새는 사람을 잡아 피를 빨아먹는다고 했다.

하지만 그런 괴물이 어디 있겠는가. 사람들이 만들어낸 얘기에 불과했다. 무지한 시절의 괴담이었을 뿐이다. 시간이 흐르면서 괴담과 괴물은 사람들로부터 잊혀져 갔다.

하지만 세월이 흘러 19세기가 되자, 슬그머니 괴담이 다시 나돌기 시작했다. 슬그머니 괴물이 부활했다. 어찌된 영문일까. 괴물새는 실재했던 것일까.

괴물새를 다시 불러온 자들은 백인 노예주들이었다. 그때, 탈주노예들이 속출하고 있었던 것이다. 백인들은 노예들에게 공포심을 불러일으키기 위해 있지도 않은 괴물새를 소환했던 것이다. “너희들이 도망가면 괴물새한테 잡혀 피 빨려 죽는다.”

효과가 있었다. 당시의 적지 않은 흑인 노예들이 ‘거짓 공포’에 속아 넘어갔다. 백인 노예주들은 그걸 보면서 만족한 웃음을 짓고 있었다.

(2) 북한군 혹은 광수

20세기의 괴물이 21세기에 다시 나타났다. 북한군 혹은 광수라는 이름의 실체없는 괴물이 21세기 대한민국에 다시 나타났다.

그런 괴물이 어디 있다는 말인가. 지만원 등이 만들어낸 거짓에 불과하다. 그들이 만들어내고 퍼뜨린 괴담일 뿐이다.

지만원이 그 상상의 괴물을 불러오고, 김진태 등 몇몇 한국당 인사들이 생명을 불어 넣어줬다.

속지 말라. 저들이 만들어낸 거짓의 공포에 속지 말라. 백인 노예주들에게 속은 흑인 노예들의 어리석음을 되풀이하지 말라.

“태극기 보이냐? 애국가 들리냐? 이게 5.18이다! 이게 광주다! 광주는 광수가 아니란 말이다!”

기레기와 가짜뉴스

기레기들이 백인들에게 동조..... 그러면서 놈들은 신문을 팔아 처먹었겠지? Newspaper accounts throughout February and March 1909 describe encounters between local residents and a beast with "enormous wings, a long pointed bill, claws like steel hooks, and an eye in the center of its forehead." It was described as making screeches "like a locomotive whistle."

서식지

독일 이민자들의 정착지에 출현.... The area was settled by German immigrants beginning in the 1730s. inhabit the hills surrounding Washington and Frederick Counties, Maryland.

이름의 뜻

졸라 빠른 새끼. Early accounts describe the community being terrorized by a monster called a Schneller Geist, meaning "quick spirit" in German.

생김새

그림 보셔. The earliest incarnations mixed the half-bird features of a siren with the nightmarish features of demons and ghouls. The Snallygaster was described as half-reptile, half-bird with a metallic beak lined with razor-sharp teeth, occasionally with octopus-like tentacles.

흡혈 괴물

It swoops silently from the sky to pick up and carry off its victims. The earliest stories claim that this monster sucked the blood of its victims. Seven-pointed stars, which reputedly kept the Snallygaster at bay, can still be seen painted on local barns.
